Fikelela Project

Through David Markham, one of our Church Wardens, we have a link to the Fikelela project in South Africa. David visits them every year to pass on our support and prayers.

Fikelela means ‘reach out’ in Xhosa and is the HIV&AIDS outreach programme of the Anglican Diocese of Cape Town. Fikelela was founded in 2000 with the vision of providing an active Christian response to the HIV&AIDS pandemic in South Africa.

The vision of Fikelela is to mobilise the Anglican community to make a sustained positive contribution to the reduction of the number of new HIV infections and to drive HIV&AIDS education and acre, in partnership with others.

Every year we support this amazing project with a donation of funds. In January 2016, when David and his wife Susan went to Cape Town on holiday, they handed over our donation at St Thomas Church, Rondebosch, one of many parishes in Cape Town, who support Fikelela. Later in their holiday, they helped parishioners from St Thomas’ pack more than 100 food parcels to be given to Aids victims and the families.
